Roots, Stems, Leaves and Flowers

We eat what?!?!

Their faces were priceless when I told them that they are roots, stems, leaves, and flowers.    They said "we eat fruits and vegetables not roots!"

We read Tops and Bottoms and watched a video on United Streaming about the parts of a plant that we eat.

Ooooohhhhhh....well, maybe we do eat leaves 😱

The we ripped a piece if celery apart and examined the "straws" inside and we used the USB microscope to look closely.

(Look closely....it's so cool)

We talked about how stems act like straw and suck the water out of the ground and up the plant.  We added food coloring to water so we could see the water move.

Next we made a flip book to label the parts if a plant and even added our own facts about each part.

Seeds

Today we learned all about seeds.  We read The Tiny Seed and The Carrot Seed and we watched an informational video on seeds.
We then made a flip book of what a seed need to grow.  Soil, water, sun, and air

      (Air😊)

I soaked some beans in water and we "dissected" the seed.  We took off the seed coat and found the tiny plant and food storage.

Then we took some beans and put them in a ziplock bag with a damp paper towel and hung them on the window. Hopefully in a week or so we will have some sprouts.

Egg Hunt

We had to rush after PE today to get outside to hunt our eggs!  When we finished and came in it started raining 25 minutes later. I'm glad we were able to love the time up and have some fun!
These were the cutest egg baskets. Mrs. Shanks made them😊
I loves our snack !  We had a bird, a nest,  and a carrot.   Well, technically it was a Rice Krispy treat "nest" (I used chocolate to hold the "eggs"/jelly beans in place), a Peep, and cheese balls.

Whose ready?!?!?!?!

On your mark, get set,  go!!!!

Yummy!!!!
