Grinch Day and Holidays Around the World

We loved Grinch Day!  We worked on our Mystery Picture by using place value or recognizing numbers and locating them on the chart.

We also enjoyed a delicious treat of Grinch juice and Grich cookies!

After reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas we made our very own Grinch and wrote about him.

We began our Holidays Around the World unit this week.  Each day we will travel to a different country (classroom) and learn about that country's customs and what customs America has borrowed.  My classroom is Germany.  We learned that America uses the custom of Christmas trees, gingerbread, and the Advent calendar from Germany. We also learned that children in Germany put their shoes outside their door for Saint Nicholas to put treats in so we left our shoes outside....when we went to check our shoes, we had a treat!!

Growing corn 🌽

We learned about how Squanto helped the Pilgrims by teaching them how to plant crops.  We thought it was so cool that he showed them how to plant using dead fish.  So we decided to plant our own corn.  We planted corn seeds (a yellow M&M) into the mud (chocolate pudding), added a dead fish (swedish fish) , and went to lunch.  When we came back, corn had grown!!! Then we ate :)

Chores

Pilgrim children had many chores and so do we! We read about the different chores that pilgrim children had to do and talked about how they were diffrerent from our chores today.
