Pink, the Letter P, and syllables

We read our Pp book and then charted words that start with P.

We illustrated our Pp poem!

We also illustrated our Pink song (sung to the tune of Jingle Bells)

We also worked on segmenting words into syllables.  We clapped out our words and the out them in the correct colomn.

Next we clapped out the syllables in our  name and graphed them into 1,2, or 3 syllables.

Syllables~ Word Parts

This week we have practiced syllables.  We started by discussing that syllables or word parts are the "chunks" of a word. When we are trying to spell a long word we can "break" it into these part to help us hear each sound.   When we are reading we can use the same strategy to decode the word. We have been counting the syllables is EVERYTHING this week.

Our Friday graphing lesson was so fun.  We graphed the syllables in our names.  Each student cameup and   clapped the syllables for their name and then the whole class would clap.  We put dots under the word parts and then placed it on our graph!
