Scarecrows

This week we are discussing scarecrows.   We are reading fiction and non fiction books.

We read Scarecrows and discussed why it is a nonfiction book.  The students mentioned things like... The pictures are real, it has a glossary, it tells us facts

Then we filled out the graphic organizer : Scarecrows can, have, are

Then we read The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't  Afraid Of  Anything

This book is great for retelling .  The students lived telling me all the things that happened.

Then we made our own scarecrow and wrote about what scares us.  I chose Mr. Dennis (our principal).  The kids thought I was kidding :).

Fall Candy Graph

It's that time again...time to eat lots of CANDY!!!!  The kids love graphing any type if food because they are then able to eat their data!!!  It's a win win situation.  We graphed the original candy corn, s'more candy corn, and pumpkins.  We were able to sort our candy into groups, create our graph, count how many were in each group, and then tell which group had the greatest amount and which had the fewest.  THEN they were able to eat their data.  The original candy corn  was colored yellow and the s'more was brown (the bottom colors) to limit confusion. We also colored the pumpkin color candy orange.
