Groundhog Day

We love Groundhog's Day!

We made our productions.

We read several books about groundhogs and then wrote what we wanted the groundhog to do!  Most of us wanted an Early Spring. A few wanted it to snow (booooo).

Then we watched the video with the groundhog's prediction.... Can you tell who was sad because they wanted snow?

I love this book. It disguises itself as purely nonfiction, however, it is full of cool facts about groundhogs.
One of the cool facts was that groundhogs have burrows with different compartments and an exit door. 😊

We then designed our own burrows.

Groundhog Day

We love predicting whether the groundhog will see his shadow and we will have 6 more weeks of winter or if he will not see his shadow and we have an early spring.

We read several fiction book about groundhogs.

We also read 2 informational books on groundhogs.

We also write about our favorite fact.

Then we made our predictions on our graph.

We also wrote about our prediction.

Groundhog Day

We missed predicting for Groundhog Day because of the snow. I was sad but decided we could do it on Monday. I read Groundhog Gets a Say by Pamela Swallow and Groundhogs by Chadwick Gillenwater.

Then we charted facts about groundhogs. We talked about what it meant if the groundhog saw its shadow (6 more weeks of winter) and what it meant if the groundhog did not see his shadow (spring would come soon).

Next,  we made our predictions. We made observations about our graph. The children observed that... *15 students thought yes and 9 thought no *more people thought yes *they are not equal *both numbers are odd *24 students made a prediction

Next, we watched a video of Georgia's groundhog, General Beauregard Lee, make his prediction. He did not see his shadow! We colored, cut out, and sequenced the order of events for the groundhog too!

The last thing we did was our mystery picture! We made a groundhog!
