Animal Report Information

Today the Animal report and information and graphic organizers went home in your child's folder.  These are so much fun!  I will post a link to the pages in case you misplace yours :)

Animal Report

We are currently learning about animals and their habitat. We are also exploring similarities and differences among animals, and comparing parents to their offspring. Your child will need to choose an animal to research and report his/her information to the class on Monday, April 27th using the 2 graphic organizers that were sent home. When choosing your animal please be specific (ex. instead of a fox you may want to choose an artic fox).    You may also use any information you might have at home (ex: Internet, encyclopedias, books, videos, personal knowledge, etc.)  You can chose to make a diorama or poster displaying the animal’s habitat and fun facts about the animal. As your child answers each question, your help is welcome; however, please allow him/her the creativity to determine how they want to word their answers.  Remember, this is a learning experience.  Mistakes might be made, but we will learn from them. J  I hope you and your child enjoy this project.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Insects and Fish

We are beginning learning about different types of animals.
We learned about insects on Monday in our room and fish on Tuesday in Mrs. Irvin's room.

I started with -
What makes an insect an insect?
Why are we not insects?

These seem like easy questions, however, the answer I kept getting was "because it's an insect" or " because we can't be an insect" but no one could verbalize exactly why.

We learned that in order to be an insect an animal must
*have 3 body parts
*have 6 legs
*have antennaes

Insects also are invertebrates and have an exoskeleton.

Why is a fish a fish?
Why aren't you a fish?
Again getting them to verbalize why was harder than you think.

We learned that
*fish have gills
*fish live under water
*fish lay eggs
*fish have scales

Egg Drop and Egg Hunt

We are ready for our egg drop!! Who will survive?!?!

Lifting it up to the roof. I was able to throw the rope in top when no one else could 💪 (proud moment).

The Easter Bunny threw all our eggs off the roof.

Now to see who survived!

We had a great survival rate!  We only lost 3 eggs.

Let's hunt some eggs!

We came back and had our special snack.

We were exhausted but the day was worth it!
