Washington, Lincoln, and Obama

This week we are learning about President Washington, President Lincoln, and President Obama.

On Tuesday, I showed the students a picture of George Washington and asked them if they knew who he was. A few said "GEORGE WASHINGTON!" So we watched a short video clip from Scholastic on him and then read a few informational books. Next, we charted our new knowledge. (This is my favorite part!)

After charting we wrote an informational piece on him and made a George Washington hat to attach our writing too.

The next day we learned about President Abraham Lincoln. I showed the students a picture of him and asked them if they knew who he was. No one guessed Abraham Lincoln. When I told them who he was and most knew he was one of our presidents. Next, we watched a short video clip from Scholastic on him and then read an informational book and a picture book about President Lincoln.

Next, we charted our new knowledge. We filled out our graphic organizer and then wrote 2 facts (an informational piece) on Abraham Lincoln. We then glued the writing on President Lincoln's stove-top hat!

Then it was time for Barack Obama. I asked if anyone knew who was our president.  So many of them did. We learned several new facts, made a craft, and wrote our favorite fact.
