Poetry Notebooks

Every week we have a letter and a color that we focus on. For the letter of the week poem, the students practice finding the letter and illustrating a picture that matches the poem.   The color of the week is very similar.  They illustrate something for that color.  Its a great way to work on them adding details to their illustrations.  I always tell my students they need  to use as many different colors in their picture as their age. (If they are 5 they should use  5 colors in their picture).  This serves as a wonderful tool at conferences and at the end of the year to show progress.
