Community Helpers - Firefighters

We were able to have two amazing firefighters come out and speak to us today. They did a great job teaching us about fire safety.

They explained to us the difference Ina tool and a toy. Above he has a hot wheel car...toy
Here he has a smoke detector ..tool.  He explained that the smoke detector is our 24 hour nose.  ðŸ˜Š

Look how intently we listened.

Next we were able to see them out in their gear.  We were able hear the sound their oxygen makes and see that even though they look scary we should never run and hide from them. They are there to help us.

Then we were able to travel outside and see their truck and all the tools they have on board.

Community Helper Day

Today was such an exciting day! We had the Police come and show us their cars and SWAT team tools. They also turned on the lights and sirens and showed us their robot that can go into places that are unsafe and look around with it's camera.

Greystone Power also came. I loved that they wore their pink hats for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They showed the students how the bucket truck worked and all their equiptment to keep safe. They also climbed a pole! It was so exciting!

Wearing the safety gear!

I love that we all dressed up as a community helper! Everyone looked so cute!

Mrs. Quinn came in and taught us how to make icing. We helped her measure and turn the icing yellow (the color of the week). The kids had so much fun. When we finished making the icing, we spread it on sugar cookies and ATE THEM ALL!  Quinn makes all my daughters' cakes. You can find her on Facebook. https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=118227948231990

I was able to snap a picture of Mrs. Quinn in her hat!!!!

They loved that they could see their reflection in the bowl.

Community Helpers - Police Officer and Doctor

The next two weeks we will be learning about community helpers. We learned what community helpers are and named some jobs that we thought were community helpers.
Our first community helper was a police officer.  We read two books about what police officers do. We put our facts on our chart and then wrote about police officers.

These are their serious police officer faces.

Next we learned about doctors.  We charted how they help us and then wrote about doctors.
