I'm scared of...

We read The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything and charted what we were scared of.

Then we wrote about it and illustrated.

We also put together what the little old lady saw and wrote if we would be afraid or not.

Washington, Lincoln, and Obama

This week we are learning about President Washington, President Lincoln, and President Obama.

On Tuesday, I showed the students a picture of George Washington and asked them if they knew who he was. A few said "GEORGE WASHINGTON!" So we watched a short video clip from Scholastic on him and then read a few informational books. Next, we charted our new knowledge. (This is my favorite part!)

After charting we wrote an informational piece on him and made a George Washington hat to attach our writing too.

The next day we learned about President Abraham Lincoln. I showed the students a picture of him and asked them if they knew who he was. No one guessed Abraham Lincoln. When I told them who he was and most knew he was one of our presidents. Next, we watched a short video clip from Scholastic on him and then read an informational book and a picture book about President Lincoln.

Next, we charted our new knowledge. We filled out our graphic organizer and then wrote 2 facts (an informational piece) on Abraham Lincoln. We then glued the writing on President Lincoln's stove-top hat!

Then it was time for Barack Obama. I asked if anyone knew who was our president.  So many of them did. We learned several new facts, made a craft, and wrote our favorite fact.

American Symbols- The White House

Today we learned about The White House.   We read two different informational books and the charted some of our favorite facts.

Then we wrote a fact about The White House and made our craft.  I was so glad I found this on http://www.busybeekidscrafts.com/Paper-White-House.html

George Washington did not get to live in The White House.

The White House is in Washington DC.

The White House has 132 rooms in it.
Our first president did not live in The White House.

Spiders

We continued our week by discussing spiders.  First we had to see if we thought spiders were cool or creepy.

We filled out our can, have, are graphic organizer together, labeled the parts of a spider, and then made spider webs to out our informational writing on.  They had so much fun with this.

At the end of the week, we chose between spiders and bats and had a cool hat to wear around the school!

We read several nonfiction books on bats and then worked together to fill out or  graphic organizer.

Here a few examples of what we did!

At the end of the week, we chose between spiders and bats and had a cool hat to wear around the school!
