We loved sorting out M&Ms. We sorted by the attribute of color and counted how many were in each group. We also made observations about which set was the greatest, fewest, and if any were equal. But we didn't stop there. 
We moved into some first grade work by taking the data and putting it into a graph! Then we made more observations (how many all together, and more specific observations like orange is greater than brown).
